Final chance to have your say on a new political map for Kirklees Council
The Local Government Boundary Commission is undertaking further consultation on new boundaries for 12 council wards in the Huddersfield and Dewsbury areas of the borough.
The Commission is not seeking submissions about the rest of the borough. A full set of final recommendations for the council will be published in January 2025.
The Local Government Boundary Commission wants to hear what residents and local organisations think about the new proposals. A final six-week consultation on the proposals will run until 10 September 2024. This follows two previous periods of consultation.

The Commission is the independent body that draws these boundaries. It is reviewing Kirklees to make sure councillors will represent about the same number of electors, reflect community identity, and that ward arrangements will help the council work effectively.
The commission is proposing 12 three-councillor wards in Huddersfield and Dewsbury.
Proposed changes from our original draft proposals include:
- Adopting alternative proposals for Huddersfield to reflect submissions received
- New proposals for south west Dewsbury to reflect submissions received
Launching the consultation Andrew Scallan, Deputy Chair of the Commission, said:
“We are publishing these further draft recommendations and are keen to hear what local people think of them.
We are reviewing all the Kirklees Council wards and have already had one round of consultation across the council area.
Given the responses we had to the first round of consultation we now need more help from local people in drawing up recommendations for the wards in Huddersfield and Dewsbury.
We want to make sure these new electoral arrangements reflect communities. We also want them to be easy to understand and convenient for local people.
Residents and local organisations have the chance to tell us whether they agree, or don’t agree, with our further draft proposals before we take final decisions.
It’s easy to get involved. Go to our website. Or you can e-mail or write to us.
Just tell us what you think and give us some details why you think that. It’s really simple, so do get involved”

Reflect the electoral cycle so that each ward is represented by three councillors
-
Create boundaries that are appropriate, and reflect community ties and identities
-
Deliver reviews informed by local needs, views and circumstances
